Who We Are and What We Do

SSM Helping Hands began as an act of kindness from the home of our founder, Wendy Gutcher who was trying to help those in need. It didn't take long for the community to take notice and begin supporting her efforts in various ways, including providing her with bigger spaces for her to grow her idea.

From her basement to an empty housing unit, to a storefront in the downtown core, we have now grown this act of kindness into a charitable non-profit organization that is supported by many sectors of the community in various ways.

Though the space has changed, many of our volunteers have been with us from the very beginning and we truly wouldn't have been able to help as many people without their amazing efforts. Our volunteers are some of the most kind-hearted and helpful people we have in the community, and we have new faces joining our team all the time. We consider them to be part of our Helping Hands family, as our home is everyone's home.

Our current Board of Directors is made of passionate community members from all walks of life, and are focused on bringing even more supportive programs and resources to the community through the community that Helping Hands has built. From sharing basic needs to life skills and gardening, to connections with other organizations, we hope to help even more people in the decade to come.
