Who We Are and What We Do

SSM Helping Hands began as a simple act of kindness to support those in need. As the demand for assistance grew, so did our space, evolving to accommodate the increasing needs of the community.

From a humble basement to an empty housing unit and eventually to a storefront in the downtown core, this grassroots effort has flourished into a charitable non-profit organization supported by various sectors of the community.

We serve a wide range of people who come together in community—both our clientele and our volunteers, each arriving for different reasons. From those living on the street and in urgent need, to families striving to keep up with the rising costs of basic necessities, to individuals seeking unique finds through thrifting, Helping Hands welcomes everyone.

 

Our dynamic team of volunteers, coming from all walks of life, plays a vital role in our success. Their compassion, dedication, and diverse perspectives enable us to make a meaningful impact. We’re proud to regularly welcome new members to our Helping Hands family, further enriching our ability to serve the community.

Our current Board of Directors, made up of passionate community members from diverse backgrounds, is dedicated to expanding our programs and resources. By offering basic needs, life skills, gardening opportunities, and fostering connections with other organizations, we aim to support even more people in the years ahead.
